Wedding Essentials

Work with Happy and team to create the core stationery pieces for your wedding, and for your life as a new family.

We combine custom art with our handmade HM house typeface to tell your story from Emblem to Save the Date to Invitation.

Each piece is produced using our meticulously edited collection of fine papers, inks and ribbons.

Wedding Plus

Work with Happy and team to create a comprehensive collection of stationery for your wedding and beyond.

Every detail and fantasy is explored. We only take on a few of these completely custom projects each year, and relish the creative freedom and collaborative spirit they allow. This package requires a long term, trusting relationship with Happy and our team as we work together over the course of a year.

All pieces are created with our signature hand painted calligraphy. Each piece is tailor-made with our finest papers, inks and ribbons. You will also have the opportunity to add pieces from our à la carte menu.

À La Carte

For our Wedding Plus clients, we offer a menu of additional stationery and decor ephemera.

The menu includes things like hand painted table numbers, luncheon invitations, table runners, candle lampshades, and party crackers.

How we work

A step-by-step guide to a typical wedding collaboration

Getting to know you


First we’ll learn about you and your wedding from your answers to our inquiry form. Once we have this information, we’ll contact you to schedule an initial consultation call.

Before your call, we’ll ask you to share inspiration and imagery in a digital Happy Journal. We will chat about your partner, wedding details, expectations of our studio, as well as our process and services.

Typically our calls are 30 mins.

If we are the right fit, we’ll get you on the phone with Happy. She treasures this time getting to know you, and it will serve as a touchstone later in your collaboration.

Sealing the deal


After your call with Happy, to begin our collaboration the next step is to select a package and make a deposit.

Designing your stationery


After we receive your deposit, we begin the design process. We typically present initial designs within 3-4 weeks.

Your project begins as an energetic drafting session within the creative team.

Happy paints the art for your suite and our calligrapher, Sarah, designs and hand paints a monogram to complement. We also enlist decorative painter Katharine Barnwell, Happy’s mom, for special flourishes. You will see a digital proof of each piece for your approval.

For us, a joyful collaboration is when we are free to use your inspiration and your input and create our best possible work with your full trust. Honesty in your feedback gets us to a final product you love and is usually possible in 1 to 3 rounds of revisions.



Each piece will be printed by our team of experts, in the following production stages: Save the Date, Invitation and Wedding Weekend.

For each stage, we’ll draw up production plans outlining the costs to print your stationery. Printing costs are separate from the design package fee.

The techniques and materials used within each project vary, but can involve any combination of hand scoring and folding, hand lining envelopes, die cutting, engraving, foil-stamping, blind embossing, and edge painting.

We are devoted to making sure each piece of stationery is executed flawlessly.



Who owns the art?

Your Emblem design is yours to use as you wish and we provide files in a variety of formats for you.

All other artwork is not permitted for use outside its designated application in the suite. We design your Save the Date, Invitation, and Wedding Day materials for their intended use and environment.

But! We are happy to work with Plus clients on creating additional custom, intentional designs. It does take time and thought, so let us know early if you’re interested and we can chat.

Can you replicate an emblem or invitation I’ve seen?

Our collaboration will be completely custom and personal to you. We pride ourselves on the originality of our work together. For that reason we do not reuse our past designs.

Can I print or calligraph my suite myself?

We do not outsource production or calligraphy. We only print in-house. We only design with our signature Happy Menocal typeface or calligraphy.
